Last night as I mentioned in yesterday's post, we went to Dunvegan just a couple of doors up from our flat. When we got to the bar we asked for the Dunvegan Hotel Malt Whisky Menu and proceeded to do our tasting. Lizzie the bartender was extremely helpful.

The whiskeys are rated white which is 4.95 per dram, the red which is 9.95 per dram and the blue (whichis hte Old Rare Bottlings and is 31.95 per dram.

We began with
1. Glenturret 10 yr. One of Scotland's oldest distillery in The Highlands. This was a "white" rate and was the mildest we were going to taste. It produced a nutty malt with honey, vanilla and caramel hints.

2. Bowmore 12 yr., rated white, from the Isle of Islay. VERY GOOD!! Listed in tasting menu as medium peated with extensive sherry ageing. Hints of dark chocolate and honey on the finish.

3. Laphroaig 18 yr, from Isle of Isley. Rated red. Founded by Alexander & Donald Johnston in 1810. An intense peat fest of whisky with lots of smoke & burnt matchstick aromas with citrus peel and peat palate. I could really taste the smokey.

4. Caol Ila Cask Strength, rated red. Bottled at 61.6%. Described as a strong nose of iodine and peat. Spicy and oily with a hint of grassiness. I described it at POISON. It was Dick's second favorite.

So for 30 lbs we tasted the four and had much fun doing it. Su's favorites we 2 & 3
Dick's favorites were 2, 4, 3, and then 1. But I think we both liked 1 as it was an easy to enjoy sipping whiskey. These whiskeys cannot be bought in the states and you would have to order them and then pay duty on the whiskeys when received in states. Shipping fees for 2 bottles is about 70 bp; 4 about 88; and 6 bottles about 110 bp. So you can see this can get rather expensive in addition to rather hefty prices for the whiskey itself.

The starter's post for Jubilee Course

Today we played Jubilee again.

Three groups in front of us, we watched Paul Laurie winner of the 1999 British Open at Carnoustie. He had his young son with him playing Jubilee as well. Fine golfers all.

This was the last of my seven day card (7 adult rounds within 14 days) at 290 bp and is for New and Jubilee at 65 bp; Eden at 40; Strathtyrum at 25. I played Eden 1; Strathtyrum 1; New 3 times and Jubilee 2 times. So you can see the card is a good deal. It does not cover the Old Course which I have played once since here, but I can use some of Dick's R&A points for a good deal on that course. Same with the Castle course.

I did bring along the camera as last time we played Jubilee (in some wee rain) I couldn't show you what #15 Steel's Gem is like...a nightmare. Last time I played I got a 9 on it and I was determined not to make that mistake again. Well I got a 9 again! Dang and double rats.

Here I am with a fine approach shot about 135 yds away. See that hill on the right....its a big problem. I took more club but ya betcha put the shot right into that hillside.

Here I am getting out of the mire of grasses using my hybrid rescue. Got it to the green, ball ran up the side of the green and then rolled off the back left side into a gully. I pitched it to the green twice and then 3 putted. Cursed, I tell you.

Well, it was a fine day anyway.
