Yesterday, Monday, Aug. 16th, we again played the New Course. It was a grey cloudy day, but no rain. Dick played very well shotting a 94 with one blow-up hole for a 9. I shot badly with a 105

That evening I made chicken enchiladas with some leftover roasted chicken. While we were have our scotch before dinner, I looked out the front window and saw this old gent riding his bicycle and carrying his golf clubs as he peddled up the hill.
By the time I got my camera out it was getting a little dark. Hope you can click on it to see the old guy.

Today was wash day and Reid Furniture was coming to check on a piece of furniture for the owners. It was pretty rainy early in the day and I thought it would be that way all day. But it turned very clear at noon and so we went for a stroll through town.

We walked along Scores Place up towards the castle ruins. Along the way we discovered MUSA (Museum of the University of St. Andrews) just built in 2008. It was a wonderful museum and we particularly enjoyed the stories of university life. Up on the roof top they had a telescope and we could look out to see Tentsmuir where we had been earlier and a gent told us to look towards the horizon near the roofline. Sure enough we spotted Bell Rock. A sight you hardly ever see.

Sculpture with time dial and back along the sea wall to the golf courses.

We continued on along to the Castle Museum which we remembered touring extensively with our granddaughter, Branduin, in 2006.

From there we walked back into the village, stopping at an antique book store to browse a bit. Then to the Holy Trinity Parrish which is open for tourists from 12 to 2pm. Went in and bought 15 more golf balls (which they sell at 3 for 1 lb). Visited with the member/docents who said we might enjoy the noon to 1pm service since it is more modern. Will check it out. Lovely couple.

Went to the Wine and Spirits shop to discuss the various scotch whiskeys that are on our daughter, Jennifer's wish list. Laphroaig Cairdeas 57.99; Quarter Cask at 28.99; Bowmore 18 at 60.49 and the 12 yr. Caol Ila at 31.99. Next door was a shipping store and for out $100 we could ship 8 bottles of scotch and then pay duty on it. OR we can put in two bottles of scotch in each suitcase and bring it home that way without duty.

Tonight before dinner, we plan to go over to the Dunvegan Hotel and do some tasting.

So "Here's to Scotland" Cheers

  1. We tried whisky (scotch) tasting--didn't get very far--lost our taste buds on the 3rd or 4th dram. Do you like Laphroaig? An acquired taste! I do love single malt scotch and The Macallan is my favorite. I think we ended up buying scotch in the duty-free shop in the airport.
