Yesterday, Monday, Aug. 9th, the weather forecast predicted heavy rain. We had booked a time to play the Jubilee Course at 11:20 and so went ahead and checked-in with the Starter. Because the weather was suppose to be quite nasty, I did not bring the camera with me. So next time we play Jubilee I will bring it because Hole #14 is certainly to be photographed. Hole #14 is called Steele's Gem. On the right side of the fairway are two huge hills. The second one requires you to lobe your approach shot OVER the MOUNTAIN from about 85 yards. Every time I have ever played the Jubilee, that hole has been the beginning of a BIG SCORE. Yesterday was no exception. So both of us shot just over 100. Alas. We plan to play Jubilee again, and I will bring my camera AND a better strategy towards Steele's Gem.

Last night the rain came and some thunder. We settled into the flat and had a great Chicken Cordon Blue and my Ceasar Salad. Read and watched some tv.

Today..Tuesday, Aug. 10th, it was quite rainy and thunder again, off and on. I did some cleaning in the flat. Dick read some of his book. After lunch we went up to Argyle Street and found a hearing aid specialist who ordered some new attachments for Dick's left hearing aid. Then we strolled over to Bell Street and visited Pam, the seamstress who owns "In Stitches". We made an appointment with her for next Thursday to repair Dick's USGA raingear jacket. The bottom two teeth on the zipper had been torn out.

The carnival is still in town and so we strolled through watching people on the rides and looking into the various booths. Stopped at Fischer and Donaldson's bakery and got a couple of goodies for my sweet tooth. Ate the chocolate doughnet and then went into a craft store to check out threads and fabrics and some of their yarns. Pretty small collection.
(Bab's you better give Carol Scalise a heads up that she can now enjoy St. Andrews AND her coffee store.)

Just on down the road is a new Starbuck's. Egads! Even into St. Andrews. Checked out the University book store. School does not begin until the end of September. I asked if they give tours to visitors and she said she thought only to prospective students. I said maybe I should just tell them I interested in enrollment. hee hee

Came home via a pedestrian walkway between Windmill Way and the Car Parks. Quite a nice stroll as it began to rain again.

Still have save two more sweets from the Bakery...a Yum Yum and a wee Apple Tart.

Tomorrow we are off early to play the New Course.

  1. I'm betting you'll play in the 90s at Jubilee next time.
