Onward to Isle of Skye
Day 3
Day 3
Many people travel to Skye because of the song. We read about the Inner Hebrides and felt that Skye had some history which intrigued us. So on day 3, we caught the ferry from Tobermory to Kilchoan on the mainland.
The que was only two cars for the 30 minutes prior to ferry departure.
The ferry is much smaller than the larger ones out of Oban. Here cars are not covered and parked two by two holding maybe 6 cars maximum
It was a cool day with some sprinkles, but for the most part everyone stayed outside on the ferry as we left the dock.
But as soon as we got to some of the currents and ocean waves, we all took cover inside.
With the mainland insight we had time for a quick picture before landing at the smallest ferry port I have ever seen..Kilchoan
That's it my friends.
We were first off the ferry and drove our now covered in SALT WATER car onto the main thoroughfare away from Kilchoan..
through the beautiful countryside of Ardnamurchan
slowing for the sheep along the roadside (yes that is packing tape holding our side mirror together ... the result of vandalism in St. Andrews)
And on through Moidart and toward Glenfinnan
and further through Fort William for gas and a car washing
to Loch Lochy where we found Letterfinlay Lodge and Hotel with a great view of the Loch and a nice lunch.
On through the Great Glen
with heather on the hillsides
further to Loch Duich and Loch Alsh with a view of the Eilean Donan Castle in Dornie
and finally with the view of the Skye Bridge in sight. Dick loved this bridge, his engineering ga ga came out in full throttle.

as we pull onto the Skye Bridge I can already see what a difference there will be from Isle of Mull to Isle of Skye
Skye is the largest of the Inner Hebrides and much more barren than the lushness of Mull. After crossing the bridge we have quite a long drive from the southern end of Skye to the furthest northeastern side to Dunvegan
great vast vistas
The Dunvegan Hotel and time to settle in.
